This week, between October 14 and 18, the "II Interdisciplinary Symposium on Violence (SISV 2024)" was held at the Education Center of the Federal University of Paraíba. The theme of this edition was "Multiple perspectives to recognize, prevent and confront violence". The opening was attended by the director of CE, Adriana Diniz, and the coordinator of the Interdisciplinary Network of Studies on Violence (RIEV) at UFPB, Professor Edna Brennand, in addition to other important names in the education scene in the country.
For Professor Edna Brennand, the main objective of SISV 2024 is to bring together researchers, operators of violence prevention practices and public policies. "We do science, we publish results, but we do not have direct contact with other important actors who work on this issue. In this way, the Symposium is an opportunity to strengthen partnerships, as well as to prevent, recognize, and indicate paths for national, municipal, and state policies,” she emphasized.
The coordinator of violence and crime prevention at the State Secretariat for Public Security of Sergipe, Abigail Souza, pointed out that the event's name already highlights the Symposium's central debate. “The issue of interdisciplinarity and transversality are fundamental elements for the study of violence, which is a multifaceted phenomenon. Therefore, it is not feasible to analyze and propose public policies to combat violence from a single perspective,” she commented.
Valdez Cavalcante, a doctoral student at the Education Center, emphasized that SISV 2024 is very important for understanding the nuances and various forms of violence today. “I had no doubts about joining the event organized by Riev. In these days, I was able to understand the scope of the action, especially when it comes to interdisciplinary mediation. I am certain that these analyses are essential to advance a more humanized education.”
